Sep 01, 2023Biden sells 'Dark Brandon' coffee mug: 'A cup of Joe never tasted better'
President Joe Biden has released a new piece of merchandise on his social media accounts, embracing the "Dark Brandon" joke that originated last year.
The president was seen in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, in which Biden drank coffee out of a mug with a picture of him with red eyes on it. After taking a drink from the mug, Biden jokes that he likes his coffee "dark," a nod to the "Dark Brandon" meme that his administration has embraced over the last year.

The coffee cup can be purchased for $22. As of Thursday afternoon, the social media post has been viewed by at least 1.9 million users.
The term "Dark Brandon" is a play on the phrase "Let's Go, Brandon," an anti-Biden chant that started in late 2021. Since "Dark Brandon" was created in 2022, it has been shared by several politicians and even White House staff members.
Earlier this year, the Biden campaign started selling T-shirts featuring the joke after his 2024 reelection campaign was launched in April. Some of the merchandise available to purchase included a $32 "Dark T-shirt" featuring the "Dark Brandon" meme.

The video with the new mug was posted while Biden is off on vacation. Since starting his presidential term in January 2021, the president so far spent all or part of 196 days at his Wilmington house. He has also spent all or part of 96 days at the rustic resort in Catoctin Mountain Park and 50 days at Rehoboth Beach.
In being away from Washington for about 370 days, the president has averaged more than 35% of every month in office on vacation.
