Heavy rain possible in parts of Minnesota

Almost 80 percent of Minnesota is in drought right now, so we could use some rain.

Spotty showers are moving through parts of eastern and far southwestern Minnesota this morning. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible. West-central Wisconsin also has a chance of a shower/isolated thunderstorm this morning.

By this afternoon, shower and thunderstorm chances will be highest in west-central and southwestern Minnesota. The rain coverage expands slowly eastward overnight.

Far southwestern Minnesota (shaded yellow) could see some scattered severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, based on the latest severe weather outlook from the NWS Storm Prediction Center:

Southeastern Minnesota, the Twin Cities metro area and portions of central Minnesota could see between one inch and 1.5 inches of rain. The bulk of the rainfall in the Twin Cities metro area will be on Sunday.
